At Academic Summer & Living Learning English (LLE) we take World Teachers’ Day seriously as we love to recognise the contribution of all our educators who help students learn English in the UK through camps and home tuition.
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated internationally each year on 5 October and is an ideal opportunity to celebrate our teachers for the impact they make. They represent the heart of what we do. They are the reason why students leave our programmes not only with improved English but also with the confidence, curiosity and cultural understanding that will shape their futures.

Meet some of our teachers and students at David Game College, London, with Dr Giedre Balcytyte in the white jacket and David Game, founder of the College.
Every July and August, Academic Summer brings together a dedicated band of teachers and camp counsellors to inspire and support young people from around 65 different nationalities who come to the UK to improve their English.
Alongside this, our sister company Living Learning English (LLE) has a network of over 100 qualified teachers across the UK, welcoming students into their homes for one-to-one tuition.
It’s no wonder then that we take World Teacher’s Day seriously as we are grateful to all our educators who inspired our students to learn with confidence, grow in independence and discover their true potential.
Spotlight on our academic leaders
Many of our teachers have been part of Academic Summer for years, shaping the experience for thousands of students. They are led by a talented team of academics including:
- Our Head of HR and Head of Academics, Ellie Jones. Ellie balances her roles with passion and expertise, ensuring that highly qualified teachers join our team and are fully supported both in and out of the classroom. To find out more, read: Leading with Heart: Ellie Jones on shaping Academic Summer Camps as teacher, HR Head and proud mum.
- Our Academic Manager, Dr Giedre Balcytyte. Giedre blends her research in linguistics with her passion for teaching, helping to shape Academic Summer’s academic philosophy. See: An interview with Dr Giedre Balcytyte – Course Director at Academic Summer.
- and our Principal, Vincent Smidowicz. With decades of teaching behind him, Vincent has mentored both students and staff, bringing wisdom and humour to every camp. See: Meet Vincent Smidowicz – a voice of experience at Academic Summer Camps
Furthermore, at Living Learning English, we have many, many qualified teachers who open their homes to international students. Their one-to-one teaching and hospitality ensures that students not only improve their English but also live as part of a British family.

Our teaching philosophy
What makes Academic Summer unique is our use of CLIL-based teaching methodologies. Content and Language Integrated Learning means students study real academic subjects, from science to history, while improving their English at the same time. This approach gives students a more natural, effective way to learn English in context, developing skills in communication, critical thinking and collaboration that will benefit them long after the summer ends.

This World Teachers’ Day we say a big thanks to all our teachers and camp counsellors. (Photographs were taken at Sidcot School, near Bristol.)
Looking ahead to 2026
We are pleased to confirm that we will once again run our Academic Summer Camps at the following venues next year:
- Sidcot School, Somerset – including our popular Football Camp in partnership with British Camp ;
- DLD College, London – a modern city-centre setting offering academic pathways and leadership programmes; and
- David Game College, London – home of our Get Ready courses for university preparation.
Plus, the good news is that we are holding our prices, offering exceptional value for families. With the dedication of our teachers and the variety of our programmes, students will continue to experience the best of British education in safe, supportive and inspiring environments.

The Clever Fox Journal is the online news section of Academic Summer Camps, inspired by our logo – a wise fox wearing a graduation cap. Just like our summer programmes, The Clever Fox Journal is a place of curiosity, learning and discovery, bringing you the latest updates, insights and stories from our academic camps in the UK and Canada. Stay informed, stay inspired – and think like a clever fox!
