A celebration of 25 years of Summer Schools

Academic Summer CEO, Helen Lami has worked in Summer Schools since the Year 2000, when she became aware of the growing demand for school holiday camps and summer school programmes. She was working for a college in London at the time and they didn’t have a summer school but were pleased to support Helen in starting her first one.

Since then she has built up Academic Summer Camps, with a team is spread across different countries and three to four camps per year in different locations in the UK and Canada and bringing over 60 nationalities to the UK each year. Helen recently shared what motivates her everyday…

From my first classroom to leading Academic Summer Camps UK and Canada and now also Living Learning English, my heart has stayed the same: creating opportunities where learning is exciting, and young people discover who they can become. And they achieve amazing things.

I love summer schools and what keeps me going over 25 summers?

🦊 Moments when a shy student finds their voice, or a homesick one finds a special friend
🦊 A teacher inspiring curiosity and creativity and going beyond a traditional classroom
🦊 Students from all over the world and cultures connecting, and friendships forming across borders
🦊 Camp Counsellors who develop and grow, and learn so much in the summer as they lead

It’s about transformation, purpose and possibility for everyone involved from students, to staff and managers Here’s to many more years of laughter, leadership and learning 🌍🦊. We need to work through the tough times as summer opportunities are so important and really worth the investment. Let’s dream big…
