Introducing the Academic Summer App: a game-changer for both students and staff

Academic Summer is excited to announce the launch of our brand-new app, designed to enhance the experience for students, teachers and camp counsellors alike. Developed over the past year by our team alongside technology expert Matt Hall, the Academic Summer App is already making a significant impact on how our summer programmes operate.

Students now have easy access to their daily schedules and instant updates on activities, ensuring they always know what’s happening next. For staff, the app simplifies administrative tasks such as recording attendance, managing room assignments and securely tracking students’ movements around campus, replacing traditional printed registers with a streamlined digital system.

An integrated messaging feature also facilitates smooth communication between students and staff during trips and excursions making the use of external platforms like WhatsApp less necessary.

Company CEO, Helen Lami shared her enthusiasm for the app: “It’s already making a big difference. Staff find it much easier to manage student information securely and efficiently, while students feel more connected and informed. We’re looking forward to seeing how the Academic Summer App continues to enhance our educational adventures!”

Mobile phones in Education?

Of course, one cannot use such an app without a smartphone. raising the important question: should mobile phones be allowed in educational settings? Helen explores this very topic in her article, Mobile Phones in the Classroom – to ban or not to ban?.

Rather than banning phones, Academic Summer embraces technology, focusing on responsible usage. Our newly developed Academic Summer App is a perfect example of this balanced approach. Designed to streamline communication and enhance security, the app offers students easy access to their schedules, instant activity updates and direct messaging with camp staff.

For teachers and counsellors, the app simplifies daily operations by managing registers digitally, tracking students securely around campus, and enabling immediate incident reporting. Not surprisingly, it’s already having a positive impact on campus life.

Helen’s article highlights that the future is digital, and rather than fearing technology, we should equip young people with skills to use it responsibly. The Academic Summer App is just one tool we use to achieve that goal, preparing students not only for university but also for future careers and life experiences.
